MCPS Wrestling Season Preview
Montgomery Gazette, Nov. 23

Lots of questions are hanging over the upcoming Montgomery County wrestling season.  But one thing is for sure: Talented teams are thoroughly spread out among the county's three divisions.

Several coaches have jokingly complained about how tough their schedules are and how they must face all the good teams.  Well, with at least two top-notch programs in each division, virtually every team must deal with the same problem.

After finishing 8-6 last season, Springbrook appears poised to become one of the county's better teams if inexperience doesn't get in the way.

"We're young, but we have guys who have varsity wrestling experience," coach Rob Wendel said.  One of those guys is junior Joe Klass (145-152). He was the team's only top-six finisher at states. Peter Checco (145) is a welcome addition to the lineup.  He won the JV county title last year. Springbrook's biggest problem is that they don't have quality talent at 103 and 112 pounds and heavyweight.

"Our schedule is atrocious," Wendel said. "Either someone thinks we're a pretty competitive team or I must have done somebody wrong." more . . .
