Track and field regionals
May 23, 2007 - Springbrook competitors excelled in the Maryland 4A North regional meet. Jordan Sawadogo matched the county’s best 400-meter dash time of the season, winning the event in 49.60 seconds. He also took second in the 800 run to qualify for states in that event, as well. Other Blue Devils event winners were Joffrey Alcidor (long jump) and Uchenna Ahaghotu (shot put).  Ahaghotu also took fourth in the discus throw to qualify for states in a second event.  Gazette

2007 Season Preview
Track and field team poised to win division

By John Martin, Blueprint

Mar. 23, 2007- The outdoor track team is getting ready to have a big season with a new coach, after coming one point short of being crowned division champs last season. This season, the team is full of old and new talent that will help them during their meets.

The new coach for the outdoor track team is Compton Godette, a retired Amtrak worker. Godette is certainly qualified for the job, as he actually holds a couple national records in track and field. Other big accomplishments for Godette are that he has trained several young athletes who have gone on to participate in state as well as national, track and field competitions.

One particular accomplishment that stands out from the rest is that Godette trained a female athlete that could run an 800, or two laps around a 400 meter field, in just two minutes and 15 seconds, an incredibly fast time. Godette inherits a team that performed very well last year in the relay competitions, the 800, short distance and long distance events.

The only major downfall for the team last season was that they did not have a single pole vaulter. This was a crucial hole for the team because it cost them the one point loss to Magruder at the divisional competition last season. That problem has been addressed this season, as there are a few pole vaulters now on the team.

“So far we are looking pretty good. We have a very solid short distance team and a very solid long distance team as well. Right now, our relay teams are looking very good as well,” junior Sharif Kronemer said. The current upcoming event for the track team is a tournament at the Prince Georges County Sports Complex.

“We have a Nike Nationals tournament coming up that we have been preparing for, and we are hoping to make a big impact on this event as well,” Kronemer said. Following the Nike Nationals tournament, the team began the season with their first meet against Einstein on March 21 at Einstein.

Expectations are high and morale is at a high point for the squad as they prepare for their next meet in the Cougar Relays Invitational being held at Quince Orchard High School on Saturday, March 24 and later against the Sherwood Warriors on Tuesday, March 27.

The Devils will also compete in the Woodward Relays at Walter Johnson High School, the Viking Invitational Meet at Whitman High School and the Katie Jenkins Invitational at Sherwood High School, all of which are invitational meets

Players To Watch:

Jordan Sawadogo: Sawadogo will participate in the 1 mile event, the 800 open and relay teams.

Sharif Kronemer: Kronemer will participate in the 2 mile event, as well as the 4 x 8 and 4 x 4 relays.
