Springbrook
among Newsweek's top high schools
May
28, 2007 - Newsweek magazine's annual high school rankings has Springbrook
rated as one of the nation's best. In this year's rankings, Springbrook
placed 164 out of the top 1,258 public high schools in the country.
The top schools were selected from over 27,000 high schools nationwide.
This year, only six Montgomery County schools are rated ahead of Springbrook
- Richard Montgomery ranked no. 25, B-CC at 44, Wootton at 61, Whitman
at 70, Churchill at 97, and Walter Johnson at 116. Springbrook's
Northeast Consortium partners Paint Branch and Blake came in at 488 and
790 respectively. Main

SOLD
OUT - Lewis Black comes home!
Springbrook
families, staff and alumni - For one night only, one of our school’s most
famous alums (or infamous, depending on your perspective) is returning
to 201 Valley Brook Drive for a very special benefit show. Yes, the
madly comic and comically mad Lewis Black, Class of ’66, will play SHS
on Friday, June 29. Hope to see you there, in an auditorium filled with
more than four decades of Blue Devils! Examiner
Springbrook
excels in DC area Academic Challenge Index
Dec.
12, 2006 - Springbrook ranks 26 out of 185 Washington area high schools,
and 7th in Montgomery County, in the 2006 Challenge Index published today
by the Washington Post. The Challenge Index is an annual analysis
of the most academically challenging high schools in the DC metro area,
including school districts in Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District
of Columbia. In this year's rankings Springbrook moved ahead of Blair
(33 overall) and continues to be well ahead of NE consortium schools Paint
Branch (62) and Blake (94). Click

History
in the making - Springbrook featured in the Post
May
10, 2005 - Springbrook's history department is featured in a Washington
Post article about how "high school students can succeed on many levels."
The story spends classroom time with Keiran Atwell's on-level and honors
history classes, Maura Ryan's AP history class, and Angela Stevenson's
IB history class. Several Springbrook students, in addition to the
history teachers, were interviewed for the story. Read
the article here.
Springbrook
honored as one of
Washington
area's "schools that work"
April
3, 2005 - The Washington Post selected Springbrook as one of the "30
exceptional public and private high schools from across the [Washington
Metro] region." Springbrook was so honored in the article "High Schools
That Work" by Jay Matthews, published in the Washington Post Magazine on
Sunday, April 3, 2005.
The
Post received over 300 nominations of noteworthy schools in a survey last
September, then then interviewed education experts, visited schools, and
examined statistics to select 30 of the nominated schools. Springbrook,
Blair, and Walter Johnson were the only MCPS high schools to be featured
in the article.
The
Post praised Springbrook as a school with a racially mixed student body
that has embraced AP and IB college-level course programs. The article
describes Springbrook as a "very large school [with] one of the most experienced
and respected principals in the region, Michael A. Durso." It notes
that Springbrook is a school of great diversity as well as great academic
achievement: "[the school] gave more than 1,000 AP and IB tests last
year, and many of the academic and student leaders are African American,
Hispanic or other minorities." Read
