2004
- 05 Gazette Preview
Dec.
1 - Springbrook faces a tall task to repeat last year's success (21-4 record).
But the Blue Devils return one of the County's top players in Keisha Haddock,
who, if she feels pressure to exorcise demons from last year's regional
final, bears the additional burden of being the go-to scorer on a young
team.
Banks
is looking for returning senior guard/forward Lauren Friend to pick up
some of the scoring and leadership slack. With good ball-handling
skills and a nice outside shot, Friend is dangerous from the perimeter
but has the size and skill to drive the lane. Other key players are
junior guard/forward Joia Daniels, another varsity veteran, and sophomore
Eryn Withers, a guard who can play the point.
The
fifth starting spot likely will fall to either Chantel Friend, Lauren's
sister, or Kristin Bradley, both returning junior guards. Sophomore
Ashley Moore, who's up from the junior varsity, and freshman Wilize Maleombho
have shown promise as forwards. more
