Sept 6 - For second-year
coach Rob Wendel, this season will be a big test. The Blue Devils are bringing
back a handful of starters from last year, but not many. They have a couple
of candidates - sophomore Phoenix Butler-Poole and senior transfer Stephen
Cremona-Simmons - to take over the quarterback position since three-year
field general Harold Brantley graduated. They are coming off of an inconsistent
2005 that had its moments - wins over archrivals Paint Branch and Blake,
not to mention its exciting wins over Whitman and Richard Montgomery, but
also its downs - the program’s first loss to Blair in 40 years and the
season-ending shutout loss to Watkins Mill. And if that isn’t enough, Springbrook
starts its demanding schedule against Sherwood, which went to the Class
4A state championship game last year. more

preview
Sept. 5 -
Springbrook's
record last season was 5-5. This year, coach Rob Wendel has 28 returning
lettermen. Key newcomers are FB/LB Kevin Robinson, QB Phoenix Butler,
QB Stephen Cremona-Simmons, OL/NG Chris Husseni. The Blue Devils
swept Northwest Consortium rivals Paint Branch and Blake last fall.
Five starters are back on each side of the ball including speedsters WR/DB
Nick Oates and TB/CB Adou Kouado. Others Wendel will depend on include
WR/DB Jordan Dow and G Mark Davis. If he is ready, talented sophmore
Butler, who is up from the JV, will take over at QB. If not, Blake
transfer Cremona-Simmons could get the nod.
