Aug. 24 -
Last year's record: 4-6. Coach: Rob Wendel (1st year). Once
a powerhouse, Springbrook has only two winning seasons in 10 years. Turnaround
is imminent however as 140 players reported for practice. "I can't explain
it," said Wendel. "One thing we did was get the word out about practice.
And this freshman class looks very good." This year's fortunes will ride
on three-year starting QB Harold Brantley. Derrick Overton and Adou Kouadio,
the top back on an 8-2 JV, are competing at tailback. Brantley has inviting
targets in agile TE/DE Darryl Kornegay (6-3, 255) and speedy WR/CB Nick
Oates. Walter Brown (5-11, 255) and Mark Davis (5-9, 225) will play both
ways on the line. Kris Diggs (5-10, 190) and Everett Pumphrey (5-10, 225)
