SHS Defense the Real McCoy
Springbrook linebacker Stephan McCoy compares building a high school football team to the popular video game, Madden 2003.  "It's kind of like playing Madden and having a franchise," said McCoy. "You have to start out low and build it up." . . . With two wins in the last two years, Springbrook took care of the low.  But now, after the Blue Devils' 15-0 shutout of Blair, it's clear they're taking care of the high as well.  Springbrook is 3-1, 2-1 in the Montgomery 4A East and thinking big.  Journal

Blue Devils Resurgent
Springbrook football is enjoying a renaissance.  The Blue Devils' resurgence is largely thanks to the blossoming of senior running back Marlon Curtis. "Marlon Curtis is one of the best backs in the county, and Springbrook looks like one of the teams to beat this year" Richard Montgomery coach Mike Bonavia said.  "They have the whole package with speed and size, and they're playing really well together."  Gazette

Devils Beat Kennedy 27- 6, Clinch Playoffs
Nov. 1 - Springbrook clinched a trip to the playoffs by defeating Kennedy 27 - 6.  The offense was led by Marlon Curtis with two touchdowns rushing; touchdown receptions by Jamyle Michael and Siafa Lavala from quarterback Harold Brantley; and a second quarter, 43-yard fake punt run by Justin Brooks. Defensively, Louis Woodland and Mike Spiegleberg turned in tremendous efforts; Will Cotton, Ali Ghanim, and Woodland each had an interception.

Devils 27, Paint Branch 12
Oct. 24 - Carl Genephat's second fourth quarter interception, returned for a touchdown, sealed the victory.  Offensively, running backs Marlon Curtis, two touchdowns, Justin Brooks, one touchdown, and quarterback Harold Brantley paced the Devils.  Defensively, linebackers Stefan McCoy, Mike Spiegleberg, and Brian Carter, defensive end Louis Woodland, and defensive back Siafa Lavala turned in super efforts by causing a season high 4 interceptions and 4 fumbles.  Gazette

Springbrook's Killer B's
Oct. 17 - Senior tailback Marlon Curtis has been the engine that has powered the Springbrook High football team this fall. On Friday, coach Norman Edwards lifted the motor out of his vehicle for repairs and dropped in a twin-valve replacement, sophomore quarterback Harold Brantley and junior tailback Justin Brooks, who kept Springbrook rolling on its successful course in a 35-0 non-league win over host Wootton.  Gazette

Springbrook 35, Wootton 0
Oct. 17 - Springbrook junior Justin Brooks got his first start at tailback last Friday during the Blue Devils' 35-0 victory over Wootton.  The 5-foot-10 junior rushed for for 134 yards and three touchdowns.  Coach Norman Edwards said Marlon Curtis should be back in the lineup when SHS  faces neighborhood rival Paint Branch on Friday, but he expects Brooks to play a prominent role.

Blue Devils Guilty of Hit and Run
Oct. 11 - While Churchill dropped to 2-4 and lost virtually all hope of a 4A West Region playoff berth, Springbrook improved to 5-1 (4-1 in Montgomery County 4A East Division play) with its fourth straight victory and remained in a close battle with Damascus (5-1, 3-0) for the division title. Gazette

Springbrook Grinds Out Win
Oct. 11 - Springbrook coach Norman Edwards said he didn't feel fortunate after the Blue Devils' 7-0 home victory against Churchill on Saturday. He easily could have. . . . On a day when star running back Marlon Curtis rushed for only 41 yards on 23 carries and Churchill started four drives in Springbrook territory, the Blue Devils were saved by a stout defense, an out-of-synch Churchill offense and yes, a bit of good fortune.  Journal

Rockets Fall to Devils in OT
Oct. 3 - As a reward for its exhilarating 13-10 overtime victory at Richard Montgomery High Saturday, the Springbrook football team received a tongue-lashing. Gazette
