Milan White, Hanna Brande, voted 1st Team WaPo, Montgomery 'Extra' All-Stars on WaPo local edition (MoCo-only)
Springbrook senior Milan White (shot put, discus) was voted to the 1st Team of the All-Montgomery All-Stars girls track team, as published in the "Local Living" section (formerly 'Montgomery Extra' edition) of the Washington Post. Olivia Ekpone (N'west) was the girls track athlete of the year. Ekpone and White were joined by: Teju Adeewole (Good Counsel, Jr.); Camille Bouvet (WJ, Jr.); Grace Corbett (Woo, So.); Shannon Dwyer (QO, Jr.); Britt Eckerstrom (N'west, Jr.); Maryam Fikri (Chur, Sr.); Thea LaFond (Kenn, Jr.); Le'Quisha Parker (N'wood, Jr.); Rachel Porzel (Blake, Jr.); Jessie Rubin (Woo, Sr.); Gwen Shaw ((Woo, Fr.); Naomi Wagnor (N'wood, Sr.); Katie Wolf (Chur, Sr.); and COTY Beth Muehl (N'west)

Brande was joined by gymnast of the year Monika Looney (Blake, So.); Liz Bofill (Sher, Sr.); Julia Konner (BCC, Fr.); Shannon Mitchell (WJ, So.); Jenny Roche (WJ, Sr.); Sophie Siedell (Blair, Jr.); and COTY Dana Creager (BCC).
No other Springbrook athletes placed on any of the remaining spring 2010 WaPo "local" (i.e., Mont. County-only) All-Star teams; baseball, softball, boys tennis, girls tennis, golf, boys track, boys lacrosse, and girls lacrosse.

H. Brande is 1st team 2010 WaPo All-Met Gymnast
Springbrook senior Hanna Brande is the lone SHS representative on any of the Washington Post 2010 Spring All-Met teams. Hanna placed on the 1st team gymnastics team and was noted for winning the MoCo vault (9.825) and coming in second (by one-tenth point to Blake's Monica Looney) at the Bi-County meet, a test between the best of Montgomery and Anne Arundel counties. Springbrook did not place any athletes on the WaPo 2010 All-Met boys soccer, girls soccer, golf, softball, baseball, track, or tennis teams.

SHS shut out of All-Gazette Baseball and Softball teams
Springbrook did not place any baseball or softball players on the MoCo All-Gazette teams. The respective teams were dominated by private school 'Good Counsel', which had both of the boys' and girls' players of the year (senior 1B/P Jake Taylor [Radford-bound] and freshman P Tori Finucane, respectively) plus two other first-teamers on each team, plus one other player on either 2nd team or Honorable Mention. Sherwood and Blake led the MCPS public schools for the girls (total of six and four total mentions, respectively, plus Blake's co-coaches being named COTY) while Wootton had five mentions, and G'town Prep and QO had three each for the boys. boys/baseball girls/softball

Soph' Pinckney is MoCo 1st Team All-Gazette, Track & Field
Sophomore Lindsay Pinckney, MD 4A long jump champion, is the only SHS representative, boy or girl, on the Spring 2010 Montgomery County All-Gazette Track & Field team. The Good Counsel boys team and coach dominated the boys side. Girls team: Olivia Ekpone (Nwest) is the runaway POTY. 1st team is Shannon Dwyer (QO); Britt Eckerstrom (Nwest); Thea LaFond (Kenn); Le'Quisha Parker (Nwood); Pinckney (Spr); Serenah Polite (Chur); Rachel Porzel (Blake); Jessie Ruben (Woo); Naomi Wagner (Nwood); and COTY Mark Brown (Nwood). The girls relays were 4x100 (Chur); 4x200 (Nwood); 4x400 (Nwest); and 4x800 (Woo).
Boys team: Reggie Steele (PB) was POTY. 1st team is Brandon Addison (WM); Kyle Graves (GC); Trevon Carroll (Gaith); Sean O'Leary (WJ); Andrew Palmer (Whit); Thor Serafenas (GC); Sean Sutton (GC); Sheldon Trotman (Nwest); Joseph Woiwode (GPrep); and COTY Buddy Crutchfield (GC). The relays were 4x100 (GC); 4x200 (WM); 4x400 (GC); and 4x800 (GPrep).

Springbrook shut out of Boys, Girls, All-Gazette LAX teams
The Montgomery County All-Gazette boys and girls lacrosse first teams for Spring 2010 were domintated by the private schools -- Landon and G'town Prep mostly for the guys, and Good Counsel -- by a wide margin -- for the girls. As for the public schools, Wootton, which had the boys POTY Jeff Zifrony, scored best for the guys, and Blake, Sherwood, and Wootton best-represented the girls across all three strata; 1st team, 2nd team, and HM. All told, the private/public split was 18/22 for the boys, and 19/20 for the girls across all three strata. There were no Springbrook boys or girls on the All-Gazette lax teams. boys team girls team

A. Abramson notches winning goal
Adam Abramson scored on an isolation play from behind the net in overtime to give the Blue Devils an exciting 4-3 win over their rival, Blake. Just one year ago the B-Dev's were 4-10 and were thumped by Blake 10-2. Springbrook boys lacrosse varsity is now 7-4. Blake falls to 3-8. full story

Springbrook boys basketball coach Tom Crowell is named The Sentinel's CoTY (citing his 114-13 record and three state titles in five years) and guard Deshaunt Walker is named PoTY (citing his team-leading scoring and the 3-peat success) in the Sentinel's season-ending honors. Montgomery County All-Gazette Wrestling: Whitman placed five wrestlers on the Winter '09-'10 MoCo All-Gazette team (one 1st team and four honorable mentions) to lead the public schools. The county's public schools accounted for 23 of the 30 spots (1st team and HM combined) including the county wrestler of the year, Magruder's junior Parke Overmiller, at 119 pounds, leaving 7 spots for the private schools. Twelve of the 25 public HS's were represented and four private schools were represented. No wrestlers from Springbrook were selected. Full team
Montgomery County All-Gazette Boys Swimming & Diving: Private school Georgetown Prep placed five swimmers (three 1st team and 2 HM's) out of 18 total selections, and G'Prep also swept the three relay categories in the 1st team group. Sherwood claimed the most spots for public schools; three 1st teamers and one HM relay team. Ten of the 25 public HS's were represented, while only Good Counsel (one HM relay team and boys county swimmer of the year Jack Conger, freshman, 50y free) and Georgetown Prep (see above) represented the private schools. No boys swimmers or divers from Springbrook were selected. Full team
Montgomery County All-Gazette Girls Swimming & Diving: Whitman led the girls' parade, placing 5 girls (one 1st-teamer, Sr. Danielle Schulkin, the girls swimmer of the year, plus four honorable mentions) out of 18 total picks, plus, the Vikings were chosen All-Gazette for all three 1st team relays. Good Counsel led the private schools, garnering three indiviual (one 1st team and two HM) and two of the three relay awards. Eight of the 25 public schools were represented, while only Holy Cross (one swimmer) and Good Counsel (three swimmers and two relay teams) scored spots for the private schools. State Finals: Got 5? We do! Springbrook beat Old Mill 74-67 to win their 5th state basketball title in school history, which also was a Maryland state-record 3rd-straight class 4A boys championship.

Akpaete selected MoCo All-Gazette Honorable Mention-- Indoor Track Springbrook sophomore Dee Dee Akpaete was selected to Montgomery County All-Gazette Girls Indoor Track team for Winter '09-'10 as an honorable mention for her specialty, the 500 meters. Region F: Rockets start fast then fizzle; Devils Keep Streak Alive
The Blue Devils' boys basketball team (23-1) will start off next season with their in-county win streak intact at 54 games after advancing to the state tournament for the third straight year, with a 64-54 4A West region final win over a plucky Richard Montgomery team. Deshaunt Walker buried some key 3-point daggers late in the game. Myles Jackson, Samin Ogunjobi, and Demetrius Austin wore down the Rockets in the paint. (Do you think that softee Rocket mascot/guy could actually SEE the game from inside that costume?!) . . . more
Galeano claims 4th in states' wrestling
Congratulations to Springbrook's Joe Galeano, who finished 4th in the MD state wrestling tournament in the 140 pound division. Sasha Barrow also qualified for states.
